In 1920, the law was finally passed for women’s rights, after a 60 year long fight, presented by five brave women, to get this law passed. This restriction against women has affected many things over the past 300 years. Such things as friction between men and women, leading to high divorce rates and lower marriage rates, generating to teens and young adults being confused upon what constitutes a good man/ father or good woman/ mother. If the founding fathers would have given women rights sooner I believe that present day America would be much more impacted by women.
One of the impacts that passing this law sooner could have had is a more female dominated government. All that women used to be good for was housework including cooking and cleaning. Which turned into keeping little girls from going to school, and instead practicing their housework. Preventing women from having rights for so many years has lead them to being shy and not speaking up for what they believe. These restrictions possibly could have affected the fact that we have yet to elect a female president, also preventing more women to run for congress, and lowering the action with all the opportunities women could have connecting to the government. By allowing women to have rights earlier the government system could have much more female dominance, by now.
Another possible difference could be less abuse towards women. It’s a known fact that women are abused more often than men. Statistics state that one out of three women get abused at least once throughout their lifetime. There are many stories you hear about abuse against women, including this one lucky survivors, Mary. She was in a 10 year committed relationship, that eventually turned into a verbally and emotionally abusive relationship. After a while the man of the relationship began hitting and slapping the woman. This injustice could be brought on by the idea that since women didn’t have much say earlier in America, that men still over power them, when really we are just as equal as each other. This crime could have been easily prevented if women were granted rights sooner, creating a different idea for men, about equality.
One last component that could have been affected by an earlier change to women’s rights is the equal pay. It’s a known fact that most, if not all, companies do not have equal pay, and pay their male workers more than their female. My mom works with men, and she actually does more work than one of the men there, and does get paid less. For some circumstances, where if men are doing more work than women at a certain job, it is fair for them to get paid more, but with this example, it is nowhere near fair. All I’m trying to say, is that as long as the job tasks are equal, the pay should be as well.
I believe that present day America would be a lot more female dominated if the founding fathers were to give women rights sooner. Women are just as equal as equal as men, which means they should have just as much freedom and equality, too.
