Just yesterday, I was put in charge to teach all the dancers some dances from UDA camp. Now, not necessarily saying that the students are average and I'm superior, I mean most of the dancers are much more talented than me, but some of them didn't go to camp, therefore they don't know the dance. Last year when my grade were the guinea pigs of dance, the eight graders weren't very helpful when it came to perfecting a dance. With one of the dances we learned they leaders had us line up and do the dance and they would tell us when we could sit down which also told us that we were doing the dance perfectly. I was still standing along with a few other dances and that honestly didn't do anything ot progress my mistake fixing, it actually humiliated me, which changed my attitude towards the whole dance.
This year I plan on not teaching like that, I plan on being helpful and not teaching my way, but the way the students I'm teaching want. If they need help, I will help them, if they want to move on I will teach them more, and if they want to try it to music, I will put the music on. By doing this, it shows the seventh graders how to help the new dancers next year, by not humiliating them. Bottom line is that I want to have a positive affect on the new students in our school, and hope that that affect will rub off on them and make it a great year for everyone that follows them!
